Youth Development Internship

Imagine Englewood If (IEi) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization devoted to strengthening and empowering the Greater Englewood community through teaching local youth and their families healthy living, environmental awareness, and positive interaction. IEi offers year-round enrichment programs for youth ages 6-12 that includes: tutoring and academic growth in Imagination Explorers: After-School program; fun and relationship building at Kids on the Move Summer Day Camp; and exposing girls to the self-discovering power of reading for leisure at Progressionista Book Club.

 

The focus of the youth development internship is to assist with curriculum development of trauma-informed activities for youth ages 6-12 years old. This is an opportunity for a student focused on Education, Social Work, or Psychology to gain experience while also helping to enhance quality youth programming offered on the South Side of Chicago. This is a 10 week unpaid internship that can be used to earn credits to satisfy an academic internship, dependent upon the institution’s approval. 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Research, plan, coordinate and facilitate trauma-informed and healing activities that align with IEi’s mission and objectives.

  • Support the program coordinator with programming tasks, recruitment and retention 

  • Participant, performance, and programming Data Entry

  • Create and maintain an engaging and safe environment for youth participants 

  • Developing caring, responsive and genuine relationships with youth participants 

  • Supervise and engage with the children during activities to ensure the success of all planned objectives.

  • Respond to emails and complete all tasks in a timely manner.

 

Requirements

  • Currently a college student or graduate student  

  • Majoring in Education, Psychology, Social Work or relevant field  

  • Self-motivated, organized and able to adapt to new situations and environments

  • Able to dedicate at least 15 - 20 hours per week

  • Positive and effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficient in Google Suites; familiar with City Span and Salesforce a plus

  • Ability to empathize and positively engage participants and parents  

  • Able to stand for long periods of time and lift 25 pounds 

  • Previous childcare experience preferred
